Working for Waders is keen to connect different wader conservation projects across Scotland. We all work better when we work together, and the plan is to create a collaborative network of active wader conservationists which runs across the entire country. To help this happen, we started to record active efforts to conserve waders, and we’ve begun to plot some of these on a map which can be viewed at http://waders.hutton.ac.uk/.

If you’re working on a wader conservation project in Scotland, we’d love to hear from you. It doesn’t matter how big or small your work has been so far; it only matters that you’re being proactive and you’re keen to do something for wading birds. The records we have assembled so far cover everything from big regional landscape projects right down to individual farmers and gamekeepers who are doing their best wherever they can.

Despite having run for just a few months, it is exciting that this process has already allowed us to make connections between a number of existing projects. Extensive work behind the scenes by BTO Scotland and the Hutton Institute has meant that the interactive map also allows you to find out more about the range and distribution of wader species in your area, and also helps to highlights patterns and trends in expansion or decline.
